What Is SEO?

Search Engine Optimization or SEO by definition is the practice of increasing the number and quality of visitors to a website by improving rankings in the algorithmic search engine results. It includes both the technical and creative elements required to improve rankings, drive traffic, and increase awareness in search engines.
In addition, it is a great way to increase the quality of your website by making it user- friendly, faster and easier to navigate.

Research shows that websites on the first page of Google receive almost 95% of clicks, and studies show that results that appear higher up the page receive an increased click-through rate (CTR), and more traffic.

In addition, it is a great way to increase the quality of your website by making it user- friendly, faster and easier to navigate.

SEO can also be considered as a framework since the whole process has a number of rules (or guidelines), a number of stages and a set of controls.

Google’s algorithm

In order for web pages to appear in a prominent position in search results, SEO practices attempt to make a website conform to Google’s algorithm. Although Google’s algorithm remains secret, over a decade of practical experience in SEO means that we have a pretty good idea about the most important factors.

How Do Search Engines Work?

  • Spider “crawls” the web to find new documents (web pages, other documents) typically by following hyperlinks from websites already in their database.
  • Search engines index the content (text, code) in these documents by adding it to their databases and then periodically updates this content.
  • Search engines search their own databases when a user enters in a search to find related documents (not searching web pages in real-time).
  • Search engines rank the resulting documents using an algorithm (mathematical formula) by assigning various weights and ranking factors.

Why is SEO Important?

In today’s competitive market, SEO marketing is more important than ever.

Search engines serve millions of users per day looking for answers to their questions or for solutions to their problems.

If you have a website, blog or online store, SEO can help your business grow and meet the business objectives. Search engine optimization is important because:
  • The majority of search engines users are more likely to click on one of the top 5 suggestions in the results pages (SERPS). To take advantage of this and gain visitors to your website or customers to your online store, your website needs to appear in one of the top positions.
  • SEO is not only about search engines but good SEO practices improve the user experience and usability of a website.
  • Users trust search engines and having a presence in the top positions for the keywords the user is searching, increases the web site’s trust.
  • SEO is good for the social promotion of your website. People who find your website by searching Google or Yahoo are more likely to promote it on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ or other social media channels.
  • SEO is important for the smooth running of a big website. Websites with more than one author can benefit from SEO in a direct and indirect way. Their direct benefit is an increase in search engine traffic and their indirect benefit is having a common framework (checklists) to use before publishing content on the site.
  • SEO can put you ahead of the competition. If two websites are selling the same thing, the search engine optimized website is more likely to have more customers and make more sales.
